Sodium CMC is a water soluble, negatively charged polymer that is derived from cellulose, the most abundant bio polymer on earth. It is used in many industries including food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and personal care products.
Sodium CMC is made by substituting some of the hydroxyl groups in cellulose with carboxymethyl groups. The degree of substitution (DS) of carboxyl groups along the chain affects the properties and applications of Sodium CMC.
Sodium CMC is also used in ocular lubricants to promote epithelial cell healing and manage dry eye.
